So many offering envelopes!

Every other month members of Grace receive a packet of offering envelopes through the mail. It is important to know that throughout the year there are three types of envelopes in the offering packets.

I. WEEKLY ENVELOPES: Our Congregation, Capital Improvements, ELCA Benevolence, St. Mary’s Hope

Our Congregation: Offering money used here equips our congregation for ministry. Offering money pays for staff salaries, building maintenance costs and programming expenses. (Programming expenses include: education materials, worship materials, Good News of Grace mailings, etc.)

Capital Improvements: Offering money used here helps to defray major building needs, including renovation work.

ELCA Benevolence: Grace Lutheran Church is a member congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Offering money used here supports the work of the larger church including new mission developments, seminary education, etc.

St. Mary’s Hope: St. Mary’s is a sister congregation of Grace Lutheran Church. It is located in Chicago, IL. Our financial assistance to this Latino congregation helps pay for their pastoral staff as well as programmatic needs.

New Ministries Appeal: In the year 2001, Grace Lutheran Church held a major fund drive to support the development of new ministries at Grace and in the larger community. This pledge drive asked people to give above and beyond their regular financial support to Grace. Funds from this drive will soon be used to hire a Parish Nurse and a Director of Youth and Family Ministry. Additional monies will help support the development of Latino ministry in Green Bay, and pay for the training of a prison chaplain.

II. HOLIDAY ENVELOPES: Benevolence Only

Thanksgiving – World Hunger

Ash Wednesday and mid week Lenten offerings – The Ecumenical Ministry of UW Green Bay

Offerings in your New Years Day, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Reformation, Easter and Christmas envelopes are combined and then divided between ministries designated annually by the Grace Lutheran Church Council: For the year 2001 these include: Lutheran Social Services, Crossways Camping Ministries, Ecumenical Ministry of UW Green Bay, Ecumenical Partnership for Housing, Christ Community Church (Bellevue), Grace Student Loan Fund.

Undesignated loose offerings or offerings NOT in Holiday envelopes go to "Our Congregation."

III. SPECIAL OFFERING ENVELOPES: Dean and Mary Kilgust Scholarship Fund, Initial Offering, Lutheran Magazine, Lutheran Social Services

Dean & Mary Kilgust Scholarship Fund: Offerings given in this envelope are placed in a scholarship fund for seminarians attending Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. This was the seminary attended by Rev. Dean Kilgust, former Pastor of Grace Lutheran Church. This Scholarship Fund was established in honor of Pastor and Mrs. Kilgust’s ministry at Grace.

Initial Offering: This offering is used to defray the costs of printing and mailing congregational offering envelopes.

Lutheran Magazine: Each family of Grace Lutheran Church receives the "Lutheran Magazine" in their home. This offering is used to defray the costs of the magazine subscriptions.

Lutheran Social Services: This offering is used to support the various social ministries of Lutheran Social Services including counseling, group homes, foster care, etc.

We publish this information in response to several questions we have heard about "Where do our offerings go?" We hope this is helpful! Any further questions or suggestions may be directed to the Church Office, 432-0308.
